Paranormal Activity [Nov. 11th, 2009|10:33 pm]

I recommend you all try to get to a screening of Paranormal Activity (there's quite a few) before it opens December 3.

People who've seen it, discuss it but let's not spoil anything.

Melbourne-related? Tangentially - there's certainly a big push for it locally.

who's been to NZ...? [Nov. 11th, 2009|09:35 pm]

My dad and I are planning a trip to New Zealand for February 2010 and I really have no idea where to start. We're looking at about ten days and the only priorities at the moment are bungee jumping, seeing some geysers and a couple of short (ie half day) walks. We'd want to stay in backpackers or cheap motels. I've heard that the south island is much better for travelers.

Any ideas, tips, must sees etc?

Thanks.

Dear Melbourne cat owners,

Please keep your friggin' cats INDOORS. Yes, that's right - I said "your" cats. They are not my pets or your neighbour's pets and they are YOUR responsiblity. If I hear another cat screeching outside my bedroom window at 2 am in the morning or if I see another cat urinating on my porch I will take a bat to it (edit: NOT SERIOUS, GUISE). Perhaps you'd enjoy it if I let my dog roam as he please into your yard and then let him take a dump on your doorstep? Hmm? Quit being so selfish and take some damn responsibility for your own pets.

Seriously, the number of times a fucking cat comes into my yard at night to bellow on the fence is INSANE. It drives my dog nuts and I have to contend with him barking and carrying on, not to mention how those damn cats bait him in the garden. I'm terrified that one day my dog will catch a neighbour's cat and then hurt it or kill it, then ultimately it's MY dog that will be labeled as dangerous by the council.

You guys are morons if you're the type that let your cats roam as they wish. Oh and quit fucking complaining each time kitty goes walk-a-bout or missing. It's your own fucking fault for letting it loose and giving it a death wish in the first place.

Demeter order [Nov. 11th, 2009|01:50 pm]

To everyone who was interested in the Demeter order: I didn't think the logistics of this project through, and I'm going to have to pull the plug.

Please ignore the lj message I sent. Don't send me money.

I'm really sorry guys. It was a good plan, and maybe there's someone else who'd be interested in taking over it, but I don't have the time right now.

Hey guys, thought I'd post two jobs I've seen in the last few days since I don't think either of these will be put up on the net:

One at Priceline in Northcote Central as a Sales Assistant. (Priceline is a fun place to work, btw, especially if you like cosmetics)

One at Wendy's in Northcote Plaza as a casual Sales Assistant.

ETA: Hand in resumes in store, if it wasn't obvious :)

This ad kind of freaked me out as a kid, and 20 years later, it's not much better.

Does anyone think that these guys make the Brady Bunch look like heroin addicts in comparison?

I found out about Demeter fragrances from this community a while ago, and have been a little obsessed with them since.

For those of you unfamiliar, Demeter do happy/ unusual scents, like play doh, rain, warm bread, freshly cut grass, leather, cinnamon toast, laundromat, the list goes on. (Have a play here, they've got 250+ options).

The US dollar being what it is, they’re really affordable at the moment too, about $6 for a little bottle and $20 for a normal sized one. The one problem being their very international-unfriendly $40 flat shipping rate.

I remember last time there were heaps of people here who were really into them, I thought maybe we could get a group order together, even with ten people it would work out to be super cheap.

Any takers? If anyone has ideas on what would be the simplest way to organise this from a logistics point of view, that would be much appreciated as well.

Hello melty Melburnians.

I am in need (even more so thanks to our current weather) of a tasteful, retractable awning for my balcony. I wish to a. shade my windows b. protect my lovely plants and c. make the balcony more enjoyable in icky sun.

I have of course googled and yellow pages-ed, however I can't find an indication of cost online and would rather have an idea before I get anyone in to do quotes,.

So, for an area of approx. 1.5 x 3Ms on a balcony in Brunswick, does anyone know what sort of cash I'm looking at? Any advice on good or bad companies welcomed.

THANKS

Working womens' handbag [Nov. 6th, 2009|10:27 am]

melbournemaniac

[sugar_plum_fair]
At the moment, I am considering buying Mimco's ladyworker handbag. I'm wanting something for work, can hold some A4 papers, and my MAC laptop. I currently have a bag that can do that but it's just not quite right. The one I am considering is $479 from Mimco doesn't get reduced during Christmas sales from what employees tell me. I would've bought it immediately but I've already got a black bag and I don't necessarily want another. Has anyone got this bag and what do they think?

The reason why I'm posting here is that I'm wanting for people to recommend other brands of handbags, both national and international to consider. My current bag is by Rabeanco from 2 seasons ago (Hong Kong store). It's a slouchy bag with two big front pockets and a back compartment for A4 or a laptop. The middle compartment is huge and also has another zip pocket inside. I can fit handbag stuff, laptop/A4 + lunchbox in this bag. The annoying thing is that because it's a slouchy bag, it expands sideways and is quite big and bulky. I like the appeal of Mimco's more slimline bag-it's also more rigid/rectangular.

I considered getting a Crumpler bag. I currently have a wonder weenie which I love, but the fabric is abrasive so it has caused pilling in the past of some of my good wool suits.

I do corporate work so I want to buy the bag that looks sharp and goes along with wearing a suit. I don't want to buy another backpack as I already have one that can do all this, but I don't like the look of wearing a backpack over my blazer.

So suggestions?
