Firstly, which park in the city is a good place to have a picnic after midnight? Or is no place safe at that time? :P
Secondly, will pizza shops be open New Year's Eve, at the normal times?

Another silly sounding question for you, MMs.
I'm planning a picnic, for my SO and I, in Flagstaff Gardens sometime soon. Does anyone here know if it is okay to drink champagne in the park?

poor birdy [Dec. 27th, 2009|03:18 pm]

[nookyontheside]
my cat caught a bird. I was so pissed when i saw him running with it and the mother bird trying to swoop him to get the baby back. Poor birdy :( this was during the day and my cat has a collar with bells. Unfortunately this little birdy has only got feathers and cant fly yet so it can only flap around.

I brought it in and put it in my birdcage with some water and monitored it over night. Now i called the local vets and theyre all shut and the RSPCA told me that most likely it will be put down because i have a feeling that it is an african minor bird which is considered a pest.

I once found a lady who took in wild life and rehabilitated them but dont know her number or where she lives anymore. So does anyone know of someone that will take it and not kill it?

I hand reared a sparrow once and he did good - but i just dont think i have the time to do this again and i dont want this cute little fellow to be killed

Edit: The bird died - happy now?

Maniacs!

Does anyone know of somewhere where I can get "sterile"/virgin soil in small amounts? I am trying to make up a box for my pet rats to play in, so I'm trying to avoid *any* fertalisers where possible.

DFO and Internet Stuff [Dec. 25th, 2009|10:29 pm]

MERRY CHRISTMAS MANIACS!!
Hope Santa was kind and brought you all something you wanted :)

For some reason the DFO web page isn't opening for me, and I wanted to know what time they open tomorrow - does anyone know?

Also, am with iprimus presently but the net is annoyingly slow and I think I'm paying too much for too little.
Any suggestions for good quality internet at a good price and good speed? I don't download much - generally just use it for emails etc etc blah blah.

Thanks and I hope you all recover from eating and drinking too much soon!

Real tattoos [Dec. 25th, 2009|10:04 pm]

Hey, we have looked high and low to confirm the tibetan symbols for love strength hope and we havent been successful in confirming this. Just wondering is anyone knows or can direct me in the right place. I have searched google, the internet in general and ALMOST ALL foreign book shops who do not stock any dictionaries or anything else to confirm these symbols.

This is for a tattoo, a real one, so its pretty important we get it right.

Cheers Melbourne, and a MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU!

I am moving to Melb in early January after going to confest

Just wondering if anyone knew of anyone who has a spare room available for under $130 a week?

I'm a 22 year old female, I just finished studying for my Cert 2 hospitality qualification . I will be throwing myself into full time job seeking when i get to Melb which with my skills won't take long to find some sort of a job.
I'm clean living, happy-go-lucky, love poetry, the arts, photography & music. I lived in sydney for my whole life and now i'm wanting to expirence a new state and a new way of life.

Looking for a share house ( not share room) close to the city area - pref close to public transport too

my qualifications : p Queer friendly - non smoking - Good sense of homour - down to earth -alternatively friendly - easy going - non physco - Tidy - no pets of my own my i love animals - reliable with rent house mate - could be ALL yours

and if you act today you'll never have to wash your dishes again - i'd do them for you :)

If anyone is help me out or give me some leads, it would be appreciated! You can contact me at possum.anemore @ gmail.com & ask for my mobile number if required. (or comment.)

Hi Maniacs!

I'd thought I'd throw this question out there and see if anyone had any suggestions, I've got a new Nissan Micra that's barely a year old and three months in the carpet on the floor wore through, near the drivers side door. (near the pedals) I called Nissan, all under warranty - got it replaced not a problem and now, 3-4 months later the same thing has happened.

I've contacted customer service but I've been getting the rude, ''not my problem'' run around.

Any ideas who I can email/call to get this dealt with in an appropriate manner?

I asked the Nissan Dealer where I bought my car if they had a customer complaints contact, and they told me to google it !

Any ideas lovelies?

Getting into public service work? [Dec. 23rd, 2009|10:55 am]

melbournemaniac

[mscate]
Hi all,

I'm looking at some new job options and I'd like to move from my job in the tertiary sector into the public service (state or federal goverment).

The problem I'm having is that I'm not getting interviews. I've applied for a few jobs which I have comparable skills in and sent in my resume and key selection criteria. I'm not even getting to the first stage, I just receive a thanks but no thanks email from a recruitment company with no recourse for feedback etc.

I've not had this problem with tertiary or the community sectors so I'm not sure whether it's simply loads of over qualified people applying or I am missing something. Does anyone know if there are any specific careers counsellors regarding the public service?

thanks,
Cate

Tattoo tipping ettiquette? [Dec. 22nd, 2009|07:54 pm]

I'm getting a tattoo in a week (half sleeve! Chapel tattoo! Fuck yeah!) and I was wondering if you lovely melbournites can educate me on tipping ettiquette? At restaraunts I kinda just round up a note and now that I pay for my own haircuts I tip (because Miss Kat at wildilocks is lovely!) but thats about all the experience I have... is it appropriate / common to tip tattoo artists here? (if so, a percentage or standard?)

thanks! I hope it's not too early to wish you all a merry and not too hot Christmas! :)
